Limericks, Rated G

Speed

The hamlet of Terrapin Trace
Is the one and only place,
Where land turtles can be
Completely carefree
And savor the leisurely pace.

In nearby Lagopolis, however,
The residents choose to forever
Race from here to there,
Because life for a hare
Is a fast-paced, hectic endeavor.

The quality of life, by contrast,
In Felicity’s quite unsurpassed,
For the cats there just live
Without a fuck to give
About issues of slow or of fast.

Wikipedia says this fable is an old one, predating its earliest recorded form by Aesop, the storyteller who lived in ancient Greece between 620 and 560 BC. See also festina lente, Latin for “make haste slowly” or “more haste, less speed.”
