Krauss the Louse

The enlightened pubic louse, Krauss,
Was the first of his kind to espouse
The virtues of learning,
As he extoled returning
On unwitting kids to the schoolhouse.

Some facts about lice from Repunzel’s Lice Boutique: They will die if they fail to find a human host within 24 to 48 hours at most. Interestingly, the 40 percent of people who experience itchiness do so because they are allergic to louse saliva. Females lay six to ten eggs a day, which hatch a week or so later. The next generation sexually matures after a week to ten days, when the females can then lay their own eggs. Under optimal conditions, life expectancy is about a month. In a pinch, they can hold their breath for up to eight hours.
