Dung Weight Standards

No weight standards for dung existed,
Until the Ordure Consortium insisted
That metric be used,
But the U.S. refused,
So the old English shit-ton’s persisted.

Though the United States was one of the original seventeen signatories of the Treaty of the Meter in 1875, the full societal transition to the Système International d’Unités (The International System of Units, abbreviated SI) never materialized. Most American units are variants of the old British imperial system that trace back to the Norman invasion of 1066 A.D. Today, the U.S. is the only remaining industrialized nation that does not use the metric system as its predominant measurement system, a truly unflattering example of “American exceptionalism.”
