Sapphic is a synonym of lesbian. The word derives from the Greek poet Sappho of the island Lesbos, who wrote of female homosexual themes. Gymnastic floor routines are performed on a specially constructed exercise surface called the floor. A routine consists of runs across the floor, which typically last just over a minute, and are made up of moves like handsprings, tucks, round-offs and saltos, which are somersaults or flips.
