According to Wikipedia: Syrup of ipecac, or just ipecac, is a drug that was once used as a cough suppressant and emetic (that is, a vomit-inducing substance). It is obtained from the Carapichea ipecacuanha plant. Scientists have determined that ipecac offers practically zero health benefits, even as a purgative to rid the body of poisons.
